The Diagnosis System of Public Transportation

The reliability of bus operation is of great significance to the normal operation of bus lines and the service quality of residents’ travel. We established a two-step reliability evaluation method and developed a diagnosis system of public transportation of Shenzhen.
Step 1:
Comparing the bus travel time of the road section with the road section travel time of the whole road network, it can reflect the level of traffic conditions of the road section itself in the whole road network and the whole road section, so as to make a longitudinal comparison.
In this step, considering that the lengths of different road sections are different, if the direct comparison of road section travel time will result in inaccurate results, the unit distance travel time should be used for comparison. Therefore, in our research, the speed that can reflect the “travel time per unit distance” is used for characterization.
Step 2:
Comparing the bus travel time of the road section with the corresponding taxi travel time that can reflect the travel time of social vehicles, it can not only reflect the competitiveness and level gap of buses for social vehicles, but also easily reflect the bottleneck of the road section. Provide managers with key road sections to realize the “Bus 1.5” strategy; at the same time, for road sections where bus-only lanes have been built, it can also measure whether bus-only lanes can effectively improve bus operation efficiency.
This step involves two key issues. One is to select the appropriate travel time of buses and taxis during the comparison, that is, the definition of the corresponding operation quality level; the other is to fit the probability distribution of the frequency distribution of buses and taxis , thus echoing the reliability definition.
